A tile-matching game of skill, strategy, and fortune. The 136-tile Mahjong set supports 5 regional variants: Hong Kong, Riichi, Taiwanese, Zung Jung, and American Classic. All involve drawing and discarding tiles to complete winning hands of melds and a pair.
Every rule of Mahjong below is frontmatter in the rules corpus. The board beside each is the game itself, live.
American mahjong as Babcock's Red Book of Rules (1923) taught it, the book packed with the sets that started the American craze. 136 tiles, every hand scored, the losers settling among themselves, and East paying and receiving double.
